Zones have been identified that describe the appropriate character and type for each area of Lakeside Park. These are not absolute, but will help guide appropriate uses and programs. For example, the Ecology and Education zone sets those priorities for consideration.
Design Concept
After careful site investigations and review of existing programs, the master plan is seeking to restore the grandeur of the park through strategic changes and general renovation. While the alternative drawings represent physical changes, management issues such as parking, event planning, and maintenance are also addressed in the master plan. The park plan seeks to maintain all existing quasi-public facilities such as the Lawn Bowling Club, the Jr. Arts & Science Center, the Rotary Nature Center, and others. In some cases changes to building locations and park interface are explored. Parking and circulation alternatives respond to the need for more efficient parking patterns. Land devoted to parking is evaluated for best use. Wildlife and habitat is enhanced.
Minimum
This alternative shows design ideas that reach towards public and wildlife goals while making the least number of changes to existing park programs and facilities. It represents a collection of ideas that generally present a minimal level of change. In some cases, goals and objectives are met only part way. Design ideas shown in the Minimum scheme can be combined with those in the Maximum scheme to form a new plan.
Maximum
This alternative shows design ideas that meet the goals and objectives of the master plan. The collection of ideas explored seeks to maximize public and wildlife benefit. Design ideas shown in the Maximum scheme can be combined with those in the Minimum scheme to form a new plan. |
